Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God by Brian Zahnd

by Luke Randall
In 1981, Brian Zahnd founded the Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA, a Church of several thousands, where he is still the lead pastor. He is the author of many books, including “Water to Wine,” “Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God,” and “When Everything’s On Fire.”
As a young Christian, Brian was a fan of the famous sermon by Johnathan Edwards “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” which influenced his preaching style.
In the book “Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God,” Brian uses Jesus as the primary lens through which to interpret God, reframing God from Wrathful to Loving. The book also considers a different view of the Atonement and the book of Revelation. Brian proposes that the Atonement is about an act of divine love that absorbs human violence and fear, rather than about appeasing an angry God.
With over 1,300 Amazon views averaging 4.7 one reviewer wrote ”I remember reading the sermon sinners in the hands of an angry God and struggling with the image it portrayed of God. Brian does an amazing job of taking his own experience and weaving it with biblical truths.”
